PETA activists shout--"Kentucky: Quit India"
Tuesday, August 19 2003 18:41 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) activists on August 19 staged a demonstration in front of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)'s restaurant in Bangalore to protest alleged "abusive" treatment of chickens by KFC.

A giant crippled "chicken" hobbled across the fashionable Brigade road where the restaurant is located as the PETA activists handed out leaflets to passers-by as part of the protest.

They held placards saying "KFC: Quit India".

PETA said its India protest was part of an international campaign launched by it after nearly two years of failed negotiations with KFC's US parent company.

It said on the anniversary of Quit India movement, the company wrote to Sandeep Kohli, Managing Director, Yum Brands subsidiary Tricon Restaurants International, asking the company to close down the only remaining Indian KFC outlet in Bangalore.
