Sunanda Shetty granted regular bail in extortion case
Tuesday, August 19 2003 14:32 Hrs (IST)

Surat: Sunanda Shetty, mother of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and prime accused in the alleged extortion case, was granted regular bail by a local court on August 19.

Granting the bail, Chief Judicial Magistrate R P Mehta asked Sunanda, who was present in the court, to furnish surety bond of Rs 25,000 and cash surety Rs 50,000.

Earlier, her husband Surendra had also been granted conditional bail by the court in Surat.

Sunanda and Surendra are facing charges of "hiring" underworld gangsters to extort Rs 80 lakh from Pankaj Agrawal, owner of Praful Sarees. The amount was payable to the actress for an advertising film that she did for the company in 1998.
