BJP expresses happiness over NDA unity
Wednesday, August 20 2003 22:12 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top brass, including Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, on August 20 reviewed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) victory in Lok Sabha on the no-confidence motion and expressed happiness over the unity within the ruling coalition.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said, "In the two day no-trust debate in the Lok Sabha, the NDA has registered a significant triumph. The victory is not just of numbers. It has enabled the NDA to present to Parliament and thus to the people the unity and a comprehensive picture of the remarkable achievements of the Vajpayee-led government."

"In fact, the two-day debate often gave the impression as if it was not the NDA government but the Congress Party that was in the dark. The disunity among the Opposition was exposed," he said.

"The Congress Party's decision to move a no-confidence motion has recoiled badly on it. We were able to convert this challenge into an opportunity. We are happy about not only the victory but also the message we were able to give to the country," he said.

Naidu said the party will take up the programme to reach different parts of the country to highlight various aspects of the two-day debate.

Top BJP leaders will be touring the country to highlight the achievements of the NDA government soon after the conclusion of the current session of Parliament.
