US military was warned of Baghdad bombing: Chalabi
Thursday, August 21 2003 17:43 Hrs (IST)

Baghdad: The American military was warned that terrorists were planning a large-scale attack on a "soft target" in Baghdad five days before the UN headquarters truck bombing, a media report claimed on August 21.

Ahmed Chalabi, the leader of the Iraqi National Congress, said the Iraqi Governing Council had warned US officials on August 14 that an attack was imminent.

The information said that the attack would be aimed at a soft target, not the American military or forces, said Chalabi, who blamed the August 19 bombing on Saddam Hussein loyalists.
