Chennai-Alleppey express derails; no casualties
Friday, August 22 2003 09:55 Hrs (IST)

Coimbatore: Engine and two bogies of Chennai-Alleppey express train derailed, while entering Erode junction early on August 23, official sources said.

However, no one was injured in the incident, as the train was moving at a speed of 15 KMPH, around 3 a m, they said.

The engine and the bogies came out of the track due to some mistake in setting the track, the sources said.

The remaining portion of the train was backed to nearby Cauvery railway station and brought to Erode station by another engine, with all the passengers, they said.

Meanwhile, incoming express trains like Cheran, K K and Kurla Express were stranded, due to the derailment and likely to be delayed to reach the respective destinations, they said.

Restoration works were going on and the track was expected to be ready by 9 a m, the sources said.
