Friday, August 22 2003 10:01 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad: President Pervez Musharraf on August 21 said Pakistan was committed to maintain minimum
credible deterrence in conventional and unconventional forces against India.
"This deterrence had been carefully analysed and quantified taking into account comparative strength,
equipment and force levels," he told a meeting of the military officials during a visit to Headquarters of
Army Strategic Forces Command, (ASFC) in Rawalpindi.
ASFC was created in 2000 to take over the command and control of the Pakistan's nuclear weapons.
Musharraf said in view of the external threat faced by Pakistan it was committed to maintaining a
minimum credible deterrence in both conventional and unconventional fields.
He further said that Pakistan stood for peace and did not have aggressive designs against anyone, but
would never compromise on its sovereignty and security.
He also expressed satisfaction over the measures adopted for command and control and security of the
strategic assets.
