Paes' cyst could be common infection: Doctor
Friday, August 22 2003 11:00 Hrs (IST)

New York: Leander Paes, who is being treated for brain cyst in America, could be suffering from an infection common in India, the doctor attending to him said.

"While not yet proven in Leander's situation, one rather common infection in India causing such a brain lesion is cysticercus granuloma caused by the larval form of a tapeworm," Dr Clarence Brown, President Chairman of the MD Anderson Caner Centre where Paes is being treated, said on August 21.

Brown said results of numerous tests on Paes were still being awaited.

"He is no longer experiencing headaches and his vision is normal. He remains in excellent spirits and is physically active," Brown said.
