Mumbai: The Food And Drug Administration (FDA), which is conducting tests on 55 samples from nine
premises of soft drink companies, on August 22 said they found samples from Khalapur plant of Pepsi in
Raigad district had contained pesticide residue.
The FDA Commissioner Uttam Khobbragade said the testing lab informed him that they found the soft
drinks contained 0.6 mg of lindane, which could be well above the permissible limits.
Khobragade said, "I will give notice to the Khalapur plant officials and let them explain how it is above
permissible limits. So far there is no prescribed limits given anywhere on soft drinks."
Only after ascertaining that any action could be contemplated, he added.
