Govt yet to give draft of women's Bill: Speaker
Friday, August 22 2003 21:53 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi on August 22 said the government was yet to give him the draft of the Women's Reservation Bill, which he had asked it to prepare and circulate to leaders of political parties.

"I asked the government to prepare a draft and circulate it to leaders of political parties but it had not yet done so," he told a press conference at the conclusion of the monsoon session of Parliament.

The Speaker denied a suggestion that the government was trying to drag him in the controversy over the Bill.

Joshi said he felt that there should be more discipline and only then the peoples' regard for Members of Parliament would increase.

On regular interruptions and disruption of the House inspite of norms being drawn up for its smooth functioning, he said, "This time there have been more disruptions and I am talking to leaders of all political parties and am hopeful that this would be settled."
