Tirunelveli: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), a key constituent of the National Democratic Alliance
(NDA), which voted against the no-trust motion against the Vajpayee ministry but raised a banner of
revolt in the Lok Sabha when government attempted to introduce the anti-cow slaughter Bill, said on
August 23 it could not say now that the unity shown by the NDA constituents during voting on the
motion, would continue for the next Lok Sabha polls.
DMK president M Karunanidhi told reporters that the DMK would not accept any deviation by the Centre
from the national agenda for governance.
DMK opposed the introduction of anti-cow slaughter Bill as it was a deviation from the agenda, he
said.
Asked whether the Opposition front of DMK, Congress and Left parties formed to protest against filing of
cases against him and other Opposition leaders under Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) on
charges of instigating government employees' strike would be converted into an electoral front, he
said, "On this also, I cannot say anything now."
Asked for his comments on the demand by Congress and Communist parties that DMK should quit the
NDA, he said they had been demanding this but his party had not taken any decision on the
matter.
