Hurriyat to meet PM if he accepts Kashmir is disputed

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference on August 24 said it would meet Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee
during his coming visit to Srinagar if he accepted the disputed nature of Kashmir and the talks were
aimed at resolving the dispute.
"We will meet Vajpayee if he extends an invitation, accepts the disputed nature of Kashmir and the talks
are aimed at resolving the dispute," Hurriyat chairman Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari
said.
He said if the Prime Minister wanted to announce packages of roads and buildings and employment
during his visit to the state, Hurriyat would have nothing to do with it.
"For that (economic package), he has an employee of the Centre in (Chief Minister) Mufti Mohammad
Sayeed," he said.
Asked if Hurriyat would agree to meet Centre's interlocutor N N Vohra for working out the modalities for a
meeting with the Prime Minister, Ansari said, "I will send someone to work out the details, if government
of India feels it would help."
"But it does not befit the stature of Hurriyat, which is a representative body of aspiration of people of
Jammu and Kashmir, to talk to a paid agent of the government," he said.
"If the Centre is serious about resolving the Kashmir issue, the talks with Hurriyat should be at the
highest level."
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had recently called for Nagaland-type of talks with
Hurriyat.
