ONGC employees call off agitational action programme
Sunday, August 24 2003 15:05 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The Joint Action Committee of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) on August 24 decided to call off the agitational action programme following an assurance by the ONGC management to look into their demands.

The agitation was called off subsequent to a detailed discussion of the committee with the management on the resolve submitted before the Petroleum Minister after a private helicopter carrying 29 ONGC personnel crashed into the Arabian Sea 35 km from Mumbai on August 11.

"As per agreed solutions to our resolve and assurances given by the management in writing, we have unanimously resolved to call off the agitation programme with immediate effect in the overall interest of the organisation," a committee release said.

The operations in off-shore fields and base offices have been normalised subsequent to this settlement, it said.

The Mumbai High Court, on August 12, had restrained the employees on going on strike from August 13 and directed the management to conduct an inquiry into the mishap and award compensation to the victims.

The court on August 18 extended the restrain on ONGC employees from going on strike till August 25.

The employees had gone on tool-down agitation stating it was a protest action and not a strike on August 13.
