Some funny leaders want help of foreign hand: Jaya
Monday, August 25 2003 19:56 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) supremo Jayalalithaa on August 25 made an indirect dig at the Congress and the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), which are reported to be coming closer, by saying that "some funny leaders" wanted the help of a "foreign hand" for their survival.

"It is funny to note that some leaders, who proclaimed to be the leaders of self respect movement, have to seek the help of other's hand, that too a foreign hand," she said while solemnising the marriage of an AIADMK MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly).

"The AIADMK is the heir of self respect movement, as it does not seek of the hand of others," she said.

In an obvious reference to the DMK's continuance in the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) at the Centre, but sharing platforms with the Congress in the state, she said some parties, which were holding on a branch of a tree were attempting to jump to another branch, without leaving the branch.

Jayalalithaa's obvious reference to self-respect movement was to the DMK and "foreign hand" to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress and the DMK joined hands to demonstrate against the cases filed against the DMK president M Karunanidhi and Congress leader E V K S Elangovan under Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act (TESMA).
