Lucknow: In a surprise development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on August 25 offered to resign from her post.

The Chief Minister made the offer to quit at a meeting of the state Cabinet, Phaggu Chauhan, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minister in the state government said.

After the meeting, Mayawati left for the Raj Bhavan where she is likely to talk to reporters.

Meanwhile, senior BJP Minister Lalji Tandon said "no government in Uttar Pradesh can run against our wishes".
