Stop fighting over Ram Janmabhoomi issue: Mahajan
Tuesday, August 26 2003 18:24 Hrs (IST)
Aurangabad: Buoyed by the findings of Archaeological Survey of India's (ASI's) excavation at Ayodhya,
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 26 appealed to the Muslim community to stop fighting over Ram
Janmabhoomi issue, failing which it threatened to step up its temple movement with renewed vigour.
"We appeal the Muslim community to stop fighting over Ram Janmabhoomi issue. Hand over the site to
Hindus and allow the construction of a Ram temple there," BJP national general secretary Pramod
Mahajan said while addressing the concluding session of the two-day conclave of BJP's Maharashtra
unit in Aurangabad.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani was scheduled to conclude the conclave, but the programme
was delayed following his visit to Mumbai, which experienced twin blasts on August 25.
Referring to the outcome of ASI's excavation that a temple existed at Ayodhya in the 10th century,
Mahajan said, "Till now Hindus firmly believed that a temple existed there. We never needed proof for it.
But with the ASI's report, our belief has got support of the evidence.
"If Muslims fail to hand over the site at Ayodhya, then we will take up the movement ahead with our belief
and armed with the new evidence," Mahajan added.
