Governor asks Mulayam for list of supporting MLAs
Tuesday, August 26 2003 20:48 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri has written a letter to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to provide by August 27 a list of legislators and parties supporting him to help him take a decision on his claim to form an alternative government.

Raj Bhawan sources said the Governor's letter has already been sent to Yadav.

Earlier in the day, Yadav met the Governor and staked claim to form an alternative government.

In his letter submitted to Shastri, Yadav said since the Mayawati government has been reduced to a minority following withdrawal of support by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), Samajwadi Party being the single largest party should be invited to form an alternative government.

Yadav claimed he had the support of all Opposition parties in the state and would prove his majority.
