Phalcon will figure in talks with Sharon: Fernandes
Tuesday, August 26 2003 14:58 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: The acquisition of the Phalcon early warning radar system from Israel will figure among other issues that will be discussed during Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's visit to India early September, Defence Minister George Fernandes, said on August 26.

"When he (Sharon) comes, there will be discussions on a whole lot of issues including this (Phalcon) and we will know then", Fernandes said.

Asked whether an announcement could be expected on the $ 1 billion deal during Sharon's visit, he said, "we will know then".

India is close to acquiring three Phalcons to be mounted on the Russian-built Ilyushin II-76 aircraft after the United States gave a go-ahead to Israel to sell these early warning radar systems.
