Narendra Modi faces protests in Kashmir valley
Wednesday, August 27 2003 14:28 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Even before Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi set foot in the Kashmir valley, several separatist organisations took out a protest march, asking him to go back.

Activists of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Jammu and Kashmir Realistic Front and Kashmir Mass Movement took to the streets protesting Modi's arrival in Kashnmir for the two-day Inter-State Council to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

The protestors, who began the march from Jehangir Chowk, were seen holding placards "Narendra Modi ko Wapas Karo", (Send Back Modi).

Police swung into action and took over a dozen protestors including five women into preventive custody when they reached the Budshah bridge, official sources said.
