SENSEX breaks 4200-resistance during morning trading
Wednesday, August 27 2003 10:58 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Riding piggyback on tremendously bullish fervour, the SENSEX opened on a strong footing and rallied further breaking 4200-resistance during morning trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on August 26 on unabated buying by speculators and fresh purchases by foreign funds.

Net purchases by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and domestic financial institutions on August 25, the day of twin bomb blasts that rocked the business capital, killing 52 and injuring over 150 people, seemed to have restored investors confidence, brokers said.

The market even witnessed participation by retail investors that had turned cautious in the last couple of sessions, brokers added.

FIIs have made net investments of Rs 72 crore and local funds pumped in about Rs 33 crore on August 25.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened sharply higher at 4173.36 as against August 26 close of 4152.29 and later rallied past 4200-mark to a high at 4214.46 before being quoted at 4178.85 at 10.30 hours (IST).
