'Recent blasts may affect peace talks with Pak'
Thursday, August 28 2003 17:36 Hrs (IST)
Srinagar: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on August 28 warned that the recent militant attacks and the
twin bomb blasts in Mumbai could have a bearing on the peace process initiated between India and
Pakistan.
"I am sure that our neighbour would be conscious of the fact that the happenings of the kind that
happened here (Srinagar) yesterday (August 27) and in Mumbai two days ago are likely to effect the
whole peace process adversely," Advani told reporters after the conclusion of the two-day Inter-State
Council meeting.
He appealed to the neighbouring country to work towards the confidence building measures.
Commenting on the August 27 incident in which militants were holed up in a hotel, Advani said, "I have
been told by the state authorities that Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba was behind the attack, which
was mainly aimed at gunning down of a former National Conference MLC Javed Shah.
Since the operation continued through the night, the complete picture and details were not available so
far, he said, appreciating the role of the state police and other para-military forces for conducting a
smooth operation.
