New Delhi: A man from Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir has been detained in New Delhi for his suspected
links with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist group, police sources said.
Mohammad Kalam alias Mateen, hailing from Surankote and believed to be an activist of fundamentalist
Ahle Hadees group, was picked up from Jama Masjid area on August 27 night, the sources said on
August 28.
He was being interrogated by a joint team of Delhi Police and intelligence agencies about the motive for
his presence in the capital and to ascertain his connections with the terrorist outfit, they said.
"Investigations are aimed to find if he is a member of LeT and whether or not he was here to provide
some covert help to the outfit," the sources said.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Kalam's family has been lending logistical and other kinds
of help to LeT cadres in Poonch, the sources said, adding it was being ascertained whether this was
voluntary or due to coercion.
Kalam has been in Delhi for more than two years and had been staying in Bara Hindu Rao area, they
said. He shifted to Jama Masjid area recently.
Delhi Police arrested two LeT activists in Palika Bazar just four days ahead of Independence Day.
