Thursday, August 28 2003 15:06 Hrs (IST)
Jammu: Security has been tightened in and around Jammu city in connection with the visit of Prime
Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who is scheduled to arrive on August 29.
The security arrangements have been toned up further in the city and its outskirts, especially in view of
August 27 militant attack in Srinagar where the Prime Minister inaugurated the Inter-State Council
meeting, deputy inspector general (DIG) Jammu Farooq Ahmed said.
Massive combing operations are on in the hilly and forest belts around the city and all incoming vehicles
to the city are being thoroughly checked, Ahmed said, adding that 'nakas' (checkpoints) have been
tightened with deployment of more police and para-military troops to maintain vigil.
Mobile security vehicles have also been pressed into service to enhance day and night patrolling.
A multi-tier security cover has been put in place at the Abhinav theatre, where the Prime Minister would
be meeting several delegations on August 29, he added.
