Friday, August 29 2003 16:01 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: Five persons have been arrested by the crime branch in connection with the militant attack on Akshardham (Swaminarayan temple) in Gandhinagar on September 24, 2002.

City police commissioner K R Kaushik told reporters on August 29 that the five belonged to various parts of the city.

Kaushik said the conspiracy to attack Akshardham temple was hatched in Riyadh.

It was hatched by militant outfits, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) after the post-Godhra riots, he said.

Thirty-two people, including three security personnel, were killed in the militant attack.
