2 ISI linkmen held; fake currency notes recovered

Silchar (Assam): Two Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) linkmen suspected to be working agents of the Pak
intelligence agency were arrested and fake Indian currency notes totalling Rs 3.5 lakh recovered from
them at a village in Assam's Cachar district, police said on August 29.
ISI, the police said, was distributing the fake currency notes to destabilise the economy of the North
Eastern region.
The two were arrested on August 28 during a raid by the police, following a tip off at village Algapur part-
II.
The police raided the house of ISI linkman Afjur Rahman Choudhury on a tip off that one Ramlung
Ruiba had come there with the fake notes. The police caught Ruiba red handed when he was handing
over counterfeit Rs 500 notes bundled in seven packets.
Ruiba is a resident of Ukrul Bazar area of Manipur and the two were involved in such counterfeit
currency trade for a long time using Choudhury's house as a conduit point, the police said.
The two confessed before police that they had purchased the counterfeit notes for Rs 2.40 lakh, the
police added.
