New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) activists on August 29 staged a protest demonstration outside
the state-owned Film Division's Mahadev Road auditorium in the VVIP zone in New Delhi where ace
director Prakash Jha's movie 'Gangajal' was being specially screened for journalists.
The activists, carrying placards and banners and shouting slogans against the film and its maker and
demanding a ban on it, were dispersed by a large posse of police personnel.
Later, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shankar Prasad came to watch the
movie.
The party workers were irked that the name of one of the characters in the film was Sadhu Yadav, the
namesake of Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi's legislator brother.
The film is based on the infamous Bhagalpur blindings.
Expressing surprise over the protests, Jha appealed to the people to first see the movie for themselves
and understand that their doubts were baseless.
Claming that his distributor in Bihar has been directed to take back all the prints of the film, Jha said, "It
is not proper to behave like this without seeing the film and understanding it. (It is) not correct for even
that gentleman whose name is in question."
