JKLF rejects Advani's offer; Hurriyat undecided
Friday, August 29 2003 21:25 Hrs (IST)
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on August 29 rejected Deputy Prime Minister L K
Advani's statement that the Centre would consider holding talks with the Hurriyat Conference in Delhi,
even as the separatist amalgam said it would take a decision on the offer after discussing it in its
executive.
"We are not beggars and we will not beg at Advani's door," JKLF, a prominent constituent of the Hurriyat
Conference, said in a statement.
The JKLF leadership has rejected any bilateral talks for resolution of the Kashmir dispute, it said, adding
only tripartite talks would help in solving the issue.
The statement alleged that the Centre was harping on normalcy in the state only to "misguide" the
people of the country and international community.
However, Hurriyat chairman Mualana Abbas Ansari said the amalgam's executive committee, in which
JKLF is also a member, would sit and discuss the offer.
"We will hold an executive committee meeting soon and discuss the nitty-gritty of the offer," he
said.
Ansari said, "Whatever decision is taken (at the executive meeting) will be in the interests of Kashmiris,
India and Pakistan."
