Sayeed confident of bringing back normalcy in J&K
Friday, August 29 2003 20:24 Hrs (IST)

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on August 29 said normalcy would be restored in the state with the co-operation of the people.

With the co-operation of the masses, we will succeed in our efforts to normalise the situation and bring the state back to glory," he said, addressing a civic reception to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Describing Vajpayee as a "great visionary", Sayeed thanked him for being liberal in sanctioning packages for improving the financial situation in the three regions of the state. "We are grateful to Vajpayee, a great visionary, for fulfilment of promises and announcements made by him."

Sayeed said his government was committed to ensure equitable development of the three regions of the state and "there is no question of disparity or discrimination, whatsoever. Every village will be given its due share."

He sought the co-operation of the people in eliminating the menace of corruption.

Blaming politicians for playing the sentiments of the people for their vested interests, Sayeed said people have now heaved a sigh of relief after the universally acclaimed fair and transparent Assembly elections in the state.

"This has also changed the thinking among the people that decisions regarding the state of Jammu and Kashmir are taken in New Delhi and they have no say in it," he said.

Referring to Kashmiri migrants, he said, "My job will not be complete till Kashmiri migrants return to their homes with dignity and honour."
