Indian politics has entered coalition era: Vajpayee
Friday, August 29 2003 20:00 Hrs (IST)
Jammu: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on August 29 asserted no government could be formed
without coalition in future.
"Indian politics has entered into an era of coalition and the future will be only decided by coalitions,"
Vajpayee told a press conference.
He said no government could be constituted without coalition in future. "This is an era of coalition and no
government can run without coalition," he added.
Asked about the after-affects of break up of the coalition government with Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh on
the forthcoming Assembly elections in five states, Vajpayee parried the question and said, "Time will tell
what will happen in future. But in UP, we had made alliance with good intentions.
"They (Mulayam Singh Yadav) are also in need of alliance," Vajpayee said, pointing to installation of
Samajwadi Party-led government in UP and added, "Mulayam Singhji is also in need (of coalition) today."
To a question about support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Mulayam Singh government, Vajpayee
said, "It is up to him to which party he is entering into alliance."
Replying to a question about BJP-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) divorce followed by a verbal duel between
the two parties, he said, "In politics such things happens. This is not a new thing."
To another query about Mayawati's claim that she will "expose" BJP, the Prime Minister said, "You will
have to ask her why is she so angry."
