Centre announces judicial probe into bridge collapse

Daman: The Centre has announced a judicial probe into the collapse of the bridge across the Damanganga river, which claimed 27 lives on August 28.

It also announced a compensation of Rs 50,0000 to the kin of those killed in the mishap and Rs 10,000 to the injured, according to district Collector Gyanendra Srivastav.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society, has also announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased.

Nearly ten vehicles and many pedestrians fell into the Damanganga river on August 28 after a dilapidated bridge collapsed due to heavy rains in the region.

The ferrying of boats between Nani Daman and Moti Daman that had been suspended following the mishap would be resumed soon, authorities said.
