Saturday, August 30 2003 14:46 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: In a surprise find, Delhi Police on August 30 detected a huge quantity of explosives from the busy New Delhi Railway Station.

During routine patrolling, alert policemen stumbled upon an unclaimed bag that contained 150 gelatine sticks weighing 21.2 kgs, DCP (Crime and Railways) Deependra Pathak said.

The explosives, which were detected at about 11.45 hours (IST), were found in an area between platform number six and seven, he said, adding bomb disposal squads had been summoned to destroy the gelatine sticks.

No arrests have been made so far, Pathak said.

Meanwhile, police detained for questioning a "suspicious" looking man carrying Rs 77 lakh in cash from the Nizamuddin Railway station.

Although police is at present not linking the detention of the man, identified as Ram Roy, with the detection of explosives, he was being interrogated about the source of the money and as to why he was carrying such a large amount.
