3 JeM militants killed in gun battle in Srinagar

Srinagar: Three militants of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit were killed and five Border
Security Force (BSF) personnel and a civilian were injured in an encounter in downtown Srinagar on
August 30, a BSF spokesman said.
The encounter broke out when militants hiding in a house at Noorbagh-Qammerwari area opened fire on
the BSF troops at around 03.30 hours (IST), the spokesman said.
Acting on specific information, BSF personnel of 61 battalion raided the house. The hiding militants
opened fire resulting in injuries to the BSF personnel, including officiating commandant N N Duby, the
spokesman added.
In retaliatory action, three militants were killed, he said, adding the injured BSF personnel were rushed
to the Army base hospital and were out of danger.
The bodies of the killed militants could not be retrieved as two more militants were still engaged in
exchange of fire, he added.
The owner of the house, Mohammad Shafi Dar, was also injured in the firing and has been admitted to a
hospital. Other inmates of the house - two women and four children - were rescued from the premises,
the spokesman added.
