JeM chief Ghazi Baba killed in Srinagar encounter
Saturday, August 30 2003 16:49 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) has claimed that Ghazi Baba, responsible for the December 13, 2001 Parliament attack, was among those killed in the Srinagar encounter, which lasted for almost 10 hours.

According to a BSF spokesman, Constable Balbir Singh also died in the encounter along with the militants.

The incident occurred when BSF cordoned off a house in Noorbagh locality following a tip-off that five Jaish-e-Mohammad militants were hiding on the premises, official sources said. The encounter comes two days after a night-long fierce gunbattle between a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant and the police at a city hotel in which two persons were killed.
