TC to fight LS polls under Vajpayee's leadership
Saturday, August 30 2003 22:21 Hrs (IST)

Asansol (WB): Trinamool Congress on August 30 said that its electoral tie-up with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would continue with party chief Mamta Banerjee saying that TC would contest the next Lok Sabha election under the leadership of Atal Behari Vajpayee.

The party, which deliberated its strategy for the next Lok Sabha poll at a special session in Asansol, made it clear that it would keep up its strong anti-Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) posture and continue to press for imposition of Central rule in the state.

The TC supremo told party workers in the presence of senior BJP leader Murli Monohar Joshi, who attended the special session, "We will not budge from our demand. Today or tomorrow there will definitely be President's rule in West Bengal."

She also said that TC's tie-up with BJP would continue and her party would fight the next Lok Sabha poll under the leadership of Vajpayee.

During the first day's session, TC adopted three unanimous resolutions - political, economic and foreign affairs. Discussions was scheduled to be held on law and order, the industrial scene and health and organisational matters.

A host of TC MPs, MLAs and councillors besides other functionaries attended the session. Expelled CPM MP Radhika Ranjan Pramanik was also present.

Party MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, who fell out with Banerjee, attended the session, but was sidelined as he was not asked to speak on any resolution. On the other hand, Ajit Panja, another MP on whom suspension was revoked recently, was given importance.
