Srinagar: Some arrested Jaish-e-Mohammad militants on August 31 identified the body of Gazi Baba substantiating the Border Security Force (BSF) claim that the outfit's top ultra was killed in an encounter on August 30.

Highly-placed state government sources said the militants were brought to Srinagar on August 31 morning by Jammu and Kashmir Police to identify the body and they confirmed it was of their leader.

The militant outfit in a statement had denied that Gazi Baba was killed in the encounter.

Director general of state police Gopal Sharma said there was no room for any doubt that the killed militant was Gazi Baba.

"We have carried out all necessary checks and are of firm opinion that the killed militant is Gazi Baba," Sharma said.

Meanwhile, BSF Director General Ajai Raj Sharma was likely to visit Kashmir on September 1 to congratulate the BSF team which carried out the operation and shot dead the militant, who was the mastermind behind the Parliament attack, and four other ultras in a 10-hour long encounter.
