New Delhi: India has offered to Iran to export manpower, including doctors, engineers and IT
professionals, as part of efforts to broad-base the co-operation between the two countries.
"India, with its vast manpower resources, can supply manpower ranging from unskilled and semi-skilled
workers to highly-skilled persons and professionals in the field of medicine, engineering and IT, to meet
the requirements, if any, of various sectors of economy of Iran," Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma
said.
In a meeting with Iranian Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Seyed Safdar Hosseini, who headed an
eight-member delegation to India, Verma said, "Iran may like to explore the possibility of importing
manpower from India on a regular basis."
On the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries during the visit of
Iranian President Syed Mohammed Khatami, Verma said he was taking steps to implement the co-
operation activities envisaged in the agreement. The MoU included co-operation on vocational
training.
India could learn from the Iranian training system, Verma said.
Referring to India's proposal for International Skill Development Fund at the recently concluded
International Labour Organisation (ILO) conference, he sought Iran's support.
