Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 31 said Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh could
take place along with the Lok Sabha polls or even before that.
State BJP president Vinay Katiyar asked the party workers to be prepared for the Assembly polls, "which
could take place along with the Parliament elections or even before it".
Addressing a meeting of the Kisan Morcha, he said, "The situation which prevailed in 1991 has
returned. Mulayam Singh Yadav is in power and the Congress is supporting him."
Evidence indicating presence of a temple was found during the excavation at the disputed site in
Ayodhya, Katiyar said. "Yadav, who claims to be the leader of the Muslims, should ask them to hand
over the disputed land to the Hindus," he added.
"We will not rest in peace till we get the land for the Ram temple construction," he said.
The BJP leader rejected former Chief Minister Mayawati's allegation that Yadav had the "tacit" support of
the saffron party.
Katiyar said the payment of dues to the cane farmers was made possible only after the Centre released
Rs 680 crore for the purpose and "the credit for it goes to the Union Government and not to Yadav".
