K'taka rejects CMC formula for Cauvery water sharing

New Delhi: A meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) on September 1 evolved a "comprehensive" formula for distress sharing of the river water but Karnataka rejected it.

Water Resources Secretary A K Goswami told reporters after a meeting of the officials from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry that a "comprehensive formula" was evolved at the meeting which would now be presented before the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) headed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

However, Karnataka is understood to have rejected the formula.
