Bangalore: Karnataka government is going to focus on the hardware industry as it feels "Bangalore is
the ideal destination" for this sector, Chief Minister S M Krishna said on September 1.
The government will make all efforts to attract investments in this sector, he said inaugurating the
Tasman Networks Development Centre.
A Hardware Technology Park will soon be set up in the vicinity of the international airport due to come
up at Devanahalli in the city outskirts, he said.
The Park, which will be on the lines of Software Technology Park in Bangalore, is a step towards
attracting more investments in the hardware sector, he said.
There are 31 hardware companies in India with hardware exports accounting for Rs 1,400 crore. The
government foresees immense potential in this sector, he said.
Earlier, Paul Smith, chief executive officer (CEO) of Tasman Networks USA, a leading provider of
networking solutions for bandwidth-intensive applications, said Tasman Networks India, which had
already invested $ 4 million, planned to invest another $ 4-5 million next year.
The company also proposes to ramp its workforce from the present 25 to 300 in the next three years, he
said.
"I foresee a new trend of smaller start-up companies opening up in Bangalore which in turn will attract
more such companies," Smith said.
