Traffic on JK highway suspended after culvert blast
Tuesday, September 2 2003 10:38 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was suspended on September 2 morning following blasting of a culvert by militants at Lawlodra near Kazigund, official sources said.

The militants blasted the culvert by planting an improvised explosive device (IED), which went off on September 2 morning, forcing the authorities to suspend the traffic on the highway, which is the only road link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, the sources said.

The IED blast came close on the heels of detection of IED planted by militants at Lower Manda on September 1. A police personnel of the bomb disposal squad was killed and two others were injured when they were trying to defuse the IED that exploded.
