Jammu: The fierce gun battle between seven holed up Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and security
forces was continuing in Kathua district, in which a jawan was killed and four others injured, official
sources said.
The encounter broke out on September 2 after police cordoned off the ghat area on specific information
about presence of militants, who had reportedly infiltrated from Pakistan on September 1 night, the
sources said.
The Army launched a full-fledged operation after cordoning off the group of militants in a small area,
they said.
"The group of seven militants are holed up in cordon," the sources said.
One security personnel was killed, four policemen, a village defence council (VDC) member and two
militants were injured in the fierce gun battle, which was still continuing in the ghat area of Kathua
district, official sources said.
While four cops of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the VDC member identified as Prithvi were injured
in the gun battle on September 2, a special police officer (SPO) and two militants were injured in the gun
battle, which resumed on September 3 morning after the night halt, the sources said.
The deceased security person was yet to be identified, they said.
Around 8:30 am (IST), when troops of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry moved closer to the area
where militants were holed up, they had to face indiscriminate grenade and rifle firing, the sources said.
