BJP to decide on UP vote of confidence tomorrow
Wednesday, September 3 2003 19:32 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is likely to finalise its strategy for the vote of confidence in Uttar Pradesh Assembly slated for September 8 at a crucial meeting of Central leaders with state leaders in New Delhi on September 4.

With the party still undecided on whether to issue a whip or not on the vote of confidence, party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stuck to the stand that a "final decision would be taken at tomorrow's meeting to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, party president M Venkaiah and state leaders."

It would also be attended by Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh, state unit president Vinay Katiyar, UP in charge Kalraj Mishra and leader of BJP Legislature Party Lalji Tandon.

Asked whether the party would issue a whip to vote against the confidence motion, he kept the media guessing once again by saying that "we will play the role of a constructive Opposition. We are ready for any situation in the state."

To another question whether the party would attempt to form government in the event of Yadav losing the confidence vote, he said "BJP will not make any effort to form government in Uttar Pradesh."
