BJP top brass prepares action plan for Delhi polls
Saturday, September 6 2003 19:02 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: In their bid to regain power in Delhi, top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on September 6 prepared an action plan for the coming Assembly polls after two days of meetings with the state unit leaders.

"We have prepared an action plan which includes holding meetings with all sections of society in view of the demographic change that has taken place in Delhi and also involving women, weaker sections and minorities," BJP Campaign Committee chairman V K Malhotra told reporters.

He said the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, party president Venkaiah Naidu, state unit chief Madan Lal Khurana and a few Central ministers.

The selection of candidates will begin from October 1 and the exercise is expected to be completed within a fortnight with the focus being on the image and winnability of the candidate, Malhotra said.

This exercise will be undertaken immediately after the completion of the Parivartan Yatra by Khurana, which he said had been getting an overwhelming response from the people and thus boosting the morale of the party cadres, he said.

The Campaign Committee would appoint a convenor who would oversee the party's electoral campaign in each of the 70 constituencies and also organise meetings to mobilise support for the party, Malhotra said.

Expressing "dissatisfaction" over the outcome of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections where the Congress-backed NSUI made a clean sweep, Malhotra accused the Delhi government of "misusing official machinery and politicising the student union election".
