Lucknow: Claiming that reports of a split in Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh were "wrong",
its legislature party leader Swami Prasad Maurya on September 6 accused the media of creating
a "false hype" that one-third of party MLAs have formed a breakaway group.
"Media reports about a split in BSP legislature party are wrong. The media has created a false hype that
one-third of party MLAs have formed a breakaway group and is likely to join the Samajwadi Party," he
told reporters.
"The claim of rebels that more than 40 BSP MLAs are ready to join the breakaway group is highly
exaggerated," he said.
A group of 17 BSP legislators has not accepted the party whip. The group includes 13 MLAs against
whom party has already moved a disqualification petition before the Assembly Speaker, Maurya
said.
He voiced apprehension that SP legislators might resort to violence on September 8 when Chief Minister
Mulayam Singh Yadav would seek vote of confidence.
"The SP is trying to lure BSP legislators and so far they have failed in their attempt. Piqued over their
failure, the SP legislators could resort to violence on September 8," he said.
Earlier, Maurya met Speaker Keshari Nath Tripathi and pressed for an early decision on the
disqualification petition filed by the BSP legislature party against its 13 MLAs who had met Governor
Vishnu Kant Shastri and demanded that Yadav should be invited to form the government.
