Terror funding: Key witness backs police claim

New Delhi: A key witness on September 6 told a Delhi court that police had seized the money in his
presence from Anjum Zamrooda Habib, the woman activist of Hurriyat charged under Prevention of
Terrorism Act (POTA) for receiving money from the Pakistan High Commission to fund the terrorist
groups in the country.
Narinder Singh, taxi driver, deposing as prosecution witness told Special Judge S N Dhingra that a police
party had intercepted his taxi near Chanakyapuri and had recovered the money from the accused
during the search.
He said thirty packs of Rs 100 and four packs of Rs 500 denominations were recovered from a big bag
carried by the accused and from a small bag an air ticket, two photographs and some cash were found
along with a diary.
Identifying Habib in the court, the driver said he had picked up Habib from the gate of Pakistan High
Commission and was going to drop her at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi when the incident
occurred.
He said on February 6 a telephone call was received for sending a taxi at the stand from the Pakistani
High Commission at 12:30 hours (IST).
Habib, leader of the Muslim Khawateen Markaz, a constituent of Hurriyat, and Shabir Ahmad Dar of the
Kashmir Awareness Bureau have been charged under Section 22 (2) and (3) (raising funds for terrorist
activities) of POTA.
Delhi Police had arrested Habib from outside the Pakistan High Commission on February 6 and had
claimed to have recovered over Rs 3 lakh from her which they alleged was received from the High
Commission to be distributed among terrorist outfits operating in Kashmir valley.
