BJP central office-bearers' meet begins in B'lore
Wednesday, September 10 2003 12:58 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Turning the spotlight on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s preparedness for the polls to five Assemblies and political developments in Uttar Pradesh and elsewhere, the BJP central office-bearers began their one-day conclave in Bangalore on September 10 morning.

Setting the tone, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu told party leaders to be on the offensive to counter the "false propaganda" of the Congress against National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and to expose the "double speak and double standards" of the Opposition.

Accusing the Congress of being "irresponsible", he said the people were being misled through false propaganda and the party should counter it and project BJP-led NDA's achievements.

Turning to Uttar Pradesh, he said the people there were tired of casteist forces and looking for an alternative. BJP was for a "new approach" and opening a new chapter and "we have to project ourselves as an alternative".

Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani is attending the meeting which, Naidu said, would focus attention on the political situation in the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, electoral preparedness for Assembly polls and political and social expansion of the party, specifically in the South and East and North East.

Some 22 office-bearers are attending the meeting, being held for the first time in the South for which BJP looks to Karnataka as the gateway.

Naidu said on September 9 that the meeting would be a "regular exercise" and be a "business-like session".
