Passenger train engine derails after hitting tractor
Wednesday, September 10 2003 10:09 Hrs (IST)

Saharsa: An engine of a passenger train derailed after it hit a tractor at an unmanned level crossing near Pratapganj village in Saharsa-Forbesganj section of East Central Railway (ECR) on September 9 night, Railway sources said.

They said the 336 DN Saharsa-Forbesganj passenger train dashed against a tractor which was stranded at the track following which the engine of the train jumped the track.

There was, however, no report of any casualty either in the train or the tractor.

The occupants of the tractor had jumped off the vehicle seeing the train approaching them, they said.

Meanwhile, an ECR spokesman said that train traffic was disrupted in the Saharsa-Forbesganj section of Samastipur division following the derailment.

A Railway technical team has been rushed from Samastipur to bring the engine on the track, he added.
