Kolkata: The West Bengal government has sounded a general alert in vital power and oil installations in
the state after it was cautioned by the Centre that ISI-backed militants were planning to attack them to
disrupt power and oil supply.
''We have received a message from the Centre that ISI-backed militant groups are planning to strike in
West Bengal, specially vital installations like oil and power,'' the state's DIG (Hq) of police, N C Ghosh,
told reporters on September 11.
He said that the police had already alerted the concerned authorities and taken all other precautions to
prevent any such eventuality.
Ghosh said that the plants under the State Electricity Board, CESC and other power-generating
agencies, particularly the power stations of Jaldhaka in North Bengal, Kolaghat, Bakreswar and Bandel
in the South, had been put on alert.
The oil installations at Maurigram, Haldia, Durgapur and Budge too have been asked to intensify
security.
In addition to their own security strength, the police would provide additional surveillance in those
installations, he said adding that the police would keep the employees there under monitoring.
