'Hurriyat leader received money through hawala'

Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Nayeem Khan, who was arrested after he failed to explain the source of Rs nine lakh in his possession, had received the money through 'hawala' channels and it was meant to fund militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on September 11.

Inspector general of police K Rajendra Kumar said the money recovered from Khan was received through 'hawala' channels and meant to fund militant activities in the state.

Khan, the chairman of National Front and a general council member of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, was detained for questioning at his residence on September 10 night after he failed to explain the source of the money, officials said. He was formally placed under arrest on September 11.
