SC note: Cong demands President's rule in Guj
Friday, September 12 2003 20:12 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Congress on September 12 demanded imposition of President's rule in Gujarat saying that
the Prime Minister should follow his "own raj dharma" in the wake of the "ringing and wide-ranging
indictment" of the Narendra Modi government in the Best Bakery riot case.
"Government of India cannot be and should not be a mute witness and a passive spectator to the goings
on in Gujarat and severe findings of the Supreme Court. Prime Minister should follow his own raj dharma
by imposition of President's rule," party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters.
He said the Supreme Court's observations were a resounding confirmation of the grave charges levelled
by Human Rights organisation and the National Human Rights Commission about deliberate subversion
and perversion of rule of law by the rulers in Gujarat.
Noting that the Apex Court had attacked the Gujarat government for filing an "eye wash" of an appeal in
the case, Reddy said that the Court had faulted the state government for its gross failure in following raj
dharma.
