United Nations: The UN Security Council Committee monitoring sanctions imposed against Osama bin
Laden and his associates has included one of the masterminds of the Bali bombing Imam Samudra and
19 other men with links to the al-Qaida terror network to its consolidated list of persons and entities
subject to embargo.
UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said the Committee added 20 individuals to the al-Qaida list.
The UN sanctions require countries to freeze financial resources, including funds derived or generated
by any undertaking owned or controlled by the Taleban, and to ensure that they are not used by the
group.
States are also obliged to freeze funds and other financial assets of bin Laden and his associates in the
al-Qaida organisation, and to prevent their entry or transit through the state's territory.
In addition, nations must prevent the supply, sale and transfer of all arms and material - along with any
form of military training - to the named individuals and entities.
The list also includes a Malaysian chemist Yazid Sufaat, who is suspected of hosting two of the
September 11 hijackers, and Zacarioas Moussaoui, the accused September 11 conspirator now in US
custody.
There are currently 123 individuals and 98 entities on the list, which is updated regularly on the basis of
relevant information provided by member states and regional organisations.
